Derek Tabone

Our founder, Derek L. Tabone has been practicing law since June 1978. He was born in Glendale California in 1953. He attended the University of Santa Clara from September 1971 through December 1977, earning BSC (Bachelor of Science in Commerce), MBA (Masters of Business Administration) and J.D. (Juris Doctor) degrees.

Mr. Tabone passed the bar exam on his first attempt, and began practicing in 1978 in Los Angeles. His first position was as the in house attorney for a prepaid legal plan. Over the next several years Mr. Tabone built a practice with the major of work in the real estate field, including both transactional and litigation matters.

After approximately five years, Mr. Tabone left the prepaid legal plan, and opened his own office. His practice expanded to include personal injury and criminal law, and; for a time, bankruptcy.

From 1992 to approximately 1998 Mr. Tabone was licensed to practice law in Texas, where he maintained offices in Houston and San Antonio. In 1996 Mr. Tabone incorporated his practice under the Law Offices of Tabone Inc. That is the current corporate structure for Mr. Tabone’s practice. Currently the firm maintains its offices in Van Nuys, California.

Mr. Tabone is licensed to practice in all court of the state of California, the North, East, Central and Southern Districts of the Federal Courts, U.S. Tax Court, the Ninth and Federal Courts of Appeal. He has tried approximately 200 cases, about half of which were jury trials. Most of the current practice is litigation based, in most areas, including business disputes, personal injury, wrongful death, fraud, breach of contract, and criminal defense.

Mr. Tabone is married to Sharon Bryant for 48 years. They have three children, Chelsea, Emerson and Sara. All of them are married and employed. Mr. Tabone and Ms. Bryant have three grandchildren, with a fourth due soon.
